How Mayowa Ahmed and family got caught up in $100,000 cancer Scam!

Mayowa Ahmed scam. The unfortunate story of cancer patient Mayowa Ahmed has gripped Nigerians with all sorts of emotions at play.Accusations have been heaped on her family claiming that they knowingly scammed Nigerians when they in fact knew that Mayowa's cancer has spread to level 4 and cannot be saved.Yet they went ahead fooling people to raise $100,000!
Well, here we look at both sides of the story and try to ascertain whether Mayowa's family
did indeed scam Nigerians or they were actually trying to save the life of their daughter, sister and family member. First and foremost,i will never blame anyone who does all what they can to save a family member or friends life.So i don't expect the family to give up on Mayowa and not try to raise money to save her just because some doctors have supposedly said she is beyond saving. As long as Mayowa is breathing, her family should be rightly exploring all channels to save her life.

It was Linda Ikeji who first brought this story to the limelight.Just two days ago she reported that Nigerians had kindly donated to cancer patient, Mayowa Ahmed, for surgery she needed for ovarian cancer, then today she reported that Mayowa and her family scammed kind hearted Nigerians.

In her own words Linda Ikeji said-You see, Mayowa is really sick. She truly has Ovarian cancer. She's admitted at LUTH but she didn't need money for surgery, because doctors had told Mayowa she was beyond treatment and no hospital in the world could treat her as she was extremely far gone. Mayowa had reached stage 4 and doctors, unfortunately, already told her family she won't survive it and had advised them to take her home. Her family instead used her situation to raise money from Nigerians. The doctors in LUTH have also denied giving her family a medical report advising her to seek treatment abroad.

Toyin Aimakhu, who was one of those who spearheaded the fundraising, as you read this, is at LUTH right now with police officers. Some people also went to the family's home and the place is locked up. Will share video from the scene  at LUTH, involving Toyin and one other donor later...

#SaveMayowa raised over $100k on GoFundMe and millions of Naira.

Mayowa's family have have come out fighting and released a statement insisting it's no scam and that they are truly taking her abroad for medical treatment. (Now, it's supposedly tomorrow).

In their new statement this afternoon, they said they are taking her to a hospital in Abu Dhabi but when they started raising money for her, they said they wanted to take her to Emory hospital, Atlanta, who had given them a quote of $100k. You will find the letter from Emory Hospital after the cut. (Above are photos of Toyin Aimakhu crying at the station)

Mayowa's family did indeed contact Emory Hospital, Atlanta to make inquiries and they were told that they would make an initial deposit of $100k after which it would cost them between $3,000-$30,000 per session, and a patient requires between 10-50 treatments.

Below is what they put out initially said, treatment at Emory Hospital in New York.

But as of today, there's no letter from Emory Hospital inviting her over. Mayowa does not have a US Visa and the cancer has even spread to her liver.

Some of Mayowa's family members are being detained at Area D in Mushin while they investigate the allegations. The person I feel most sorry for in all this is Mayowa herself. She doesn't deserve all this on top of fighting for her life. Sad!

This is a statement from the family...

So my own conclusion?Well,i find it hard to believe that Mayowa's family did indeed have a sinister motive.Yes,she may have been at the fourth stage of cancer, but we have heard of people who survived this against all odds.Maybe her family did indeed want to take her abroad and fight till the last, judging from some of the things that came to light later as seen in this article,i do believe that Mayowa's family really wanted to take her abroad for treatment.Maybe this is the ever optimist in me that does not want to believe people can be so callous,i don't know but it is just my belief.

Mayowa Ahmed's fight looks bleak, she is really in a bad way,but like i said ,we have seen people in worse situations who pulled through. So why can't Mayowa be one of those? What has she got to lose?As long as their is life, there is hope.Keep fighting my sister and i wish you the best of luck.
