MTV Africa Awards(MAMA) Back,Holds In South Africa

The MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) 2014, meant to celebrate musicians who made the most impact on African Youth Culture in 2013, would hold on June 7 in South Africa.
This was contained in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos by Alex Okosi, the Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa.
NAN reports that VIMN Africa is the organiser of MAMA 2014, which would be held at the Durban International
Convention Centre (ICC), South Africa.
He said that MAMA 2014, would feature dazzling performances by Nigerian, African and international artists.
Okosi, who is the Head of MTV Africa, said the awards would also include signature collaboration between artists of different genres and cultures, adding that it would be the high point of every show.
“Artists will be recognised in 13 different award categories, including Best Male, Best Female and Best New Act.
“This year, three new `lifestyle’ awards will be added to the music categories, including the `MAMA Leadership Award’ and `Personality of the Year’.
“A special award, `Transform Today by Absolut’ will celebrate the power of young individuals to transform the image of Africa through their creativity and vision,’’ he said.
Okosi said that the awards would be sponsored by KwaZulu-Natal Province and supported by Absolut.
NAN reports that MAMA was first staged in Abuja in 2008, Nairobi in 2009 and Lagos in 2010.
Some of the most notable winners of the Award were Nigerian artists like 2Face Idibia, D’Banj, P-Square, Naeto C and Asa. (NAN)
