Two Nigerians, Minister for Finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Billionaire oil mogul, Folorunsho Alakija have been listed among Forbes 100 Most Powerful Women in the World for 2014.
The magazine yesterday Wednesday May 28 2014 released its annual World's Most Powerful Women today, based on money, media momentum and social impact.
59-year-old Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is ranked 44 while 63-year-old Folorunsho Alakija, Executive Vice Chairman of Famfa Oil who defeated Oprah Winfrey in 2013 to become the Richest black woman in the World is ranked 96 on the list.
Topping the list as the first is German Chancellor Angela Merkel while other African on the lists
are, President of Malawi, Joyce Banda at 40, while Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf of Liberia is ranked 70.
The returning champ is German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who has made the list 10 times, with nine of those coming at No. 1, including this year. First lady Michelle Obama finished No. 8, barely beating Facebook COO Sheryl Sandburg, who came in at No. 9.
Other famous people included Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce and Angelina Jolie. Which is important, because only the famous people really matter.
Jolie, who stars this week in "Maleficent" and also serves as special envoy for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, finished No. 50, while Beyonce came in at No. 17.
Returning celebrities on the 10-year-old list include Winfrey (No. 14), Hillary Clinton (No. 6) and Melinda Gates (No. 3), among others. Then there's Ellen DeGeneres (No. 46), Shakira (No. 58) Lady Gaga (No. 67), and Sofia Vergara (No. 32). Rounding out the Top 5 were Janet Yellen, Chair of the Federal Reserve (No. 2); Dilma Rousseff, president of Brazil (No. 4); and Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund (No. 5).
