Nigeria does indeed have a problem.When men who can clearly take us to the promised land are stopped based on their religion and tribe.
The APC has ruled out the possibility of the Governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Fashola as a possible running mate to any of the Presidential aspirants in the party.This is said to be because the party cannot field a muslim muslim ticket.
I mean ,which kind of Nigerian will give up right for progress and change just because the man or
men who can achieve this for us are not from the right religious sect?I can't understand it.People will rather be jobless,homeless,have bad roads and health care and not be able to pay their school fees,as long as their kinsmen or religious preference is represented in power!
What kind of people think this way? Unfortunately there are many,and this is one of the reason that Nigeria will be in the doldrums for a while.We keeping putting a square peg in a round hole.
Who cares whether Babatunde Fashola practises Hinduism or worships an Orisha?What should be the main concern is what he can do FOR the country.But some or maybe even most Nigerian's would rather suffer,starve and live in bondage than vote for that.Amazing priorities indeed.
According to a chieftain of the party who spoke on condition of anonymity to Punch, Gov. Fashola's religion has disqualified him as a possible running mate since the party would be fielding a Muslim as its Presidential candidate. The chieftain said the party was not going to be fielding a Muslim-Muslim ticket hence the decision to drop Gov Fashola as a possible running mate.
"You know that the South-West is a base for the APC and it also contributed immensely to its formation. We would have preferred Fashola because of his pedigree in the state. Moreover, of all the APC governors from the zone, he is the only one doing his second term. But this issue of religion is the problem" the Chieftain said.
Out of the four contenders for the Presidential ticket of the APC, three of them, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari rtd, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Gov Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano state are all Muslims. It is only the Chairman of leadership newspaper, Mr Sam Nda-Isaiah that is a Christian.
This is one of the many damage religion does and keeps doing in Nigeria.I really don't know which is worse in Nigeria,religion,tribalism or corruption.I think they are all from the same mother and father,they are triplets.
