Controversy on Buhari Northern appointments as Nigerians react!

Femi Fani Kayode's reaction to Buhari's Northern appointments.

This is what Femi Fani Kayode posted on his facebook page and it has generated so much controversy. On one hand,it is rather peculiar that Buhari being a Northerner, has appointed Northerners predominantly in his cabinet. Then the flip side is,would you rather he appoints Northerners and they get the job done or he is diverse and we continue with the chop i chop phenomenon?

Also some Northerners defended Buhari saying he has not done anything new as the last Government of Goodluck Jonathan was filled with predominantly Southern Nigerians..He
then provided a list you will find further below.
Nigeria is a very complicated nation to rule cos there is so much ethnic diversity. We are a very tribal set up as well as religion. The average Nigerian does not mind suffering as long as his kinsman or religious preference is in power.
As for me personally i don't mind or care where our leaders come from as long as they get the job done. But having said that,i would have been more at ease if it was a Southern President who made all these Northern political appointments, because then i will be 100% certain it was on merit. When its a Northern leader who then appoints all Northerners or vice versa Southerners, its a lot more suspicious, but i am willing to have an open mind and wait to see the results. If they are going fine, then ill be the first to applaud,so for now,i am backing the president.

This is a reply given by a Northerner Muhammad Sageer Maharaz defending Buhari's actions...
MAY OUR CRITIQUE BE BASED ON EXCELLENCE & PERFORMANCE NOT ON CREED OR CLAN.These are some of the appointments made by Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, but no body raised an alarm from the North. For those who see only from tribal and sectional prism, some research will do us a lot of good. It may not have been right but when GEJ did this you were quiet.

And here is what another Nigerian Dr-Joseph Ogundu had to say about the situation..

No pluralistic society can survive with this type of lopsidedness in political appointments that favors one section of the country over others. I remember reading an article were General Ibrahim Babangida said that his main quarrel with General Buhari, now President Buhari is that he does not understand the diversity of Nigerian society. Many people in APC including Alhaji Lai Mohammed lampooned the esteemed General. Now, President Buhari through his appointments has shown that General Babangida was right in his assessment. Also, the nation need to understand that President Buhari never hid this agenda because in 2003, 2007 and 2011 general elections, he made it clear that the North was being marginalized regardless of the fact that under Obasanjo, Jonathan and Yaradua, the North occupied the largest number of top political positions in the country. Though I do not know Mr. President directly, I will appeal to him to respect and ensure Federal Character in appointments into offices of the Federal government and its agencies.

Judging by his current appointments, it appears that he is more interested in dividing Nigeria than in uniting her. Those of you in APC, specificall Rotimi Amaech and Tinubu need to appeal to him to understand that Nigeria is a diverse country and need the input of all its ethnic and religious makeup to succeed. Though Fani Kayode wrote severally on this issue during the 2015 election and APC members lampooned him but he has been vindicated by the current actions of the president that showed him as president of Northern Nigeria and not President of Nigeria. There is still time for the president to change course and correct the injustice he is knowingly perpetrating against the southern part of the country. His actions are encouraging division not only in the polity but in the entire country. I do not believe that this was what Tinubu, Amaechi and the rest of APC bigwigs from the Southern part of the country bargained for when they spent their time, political capital and the peoples money under their custody to sponsor Buhari's candidacy for the office of the president.

Nigeria is a land of the strong, only a strong man can successfully rule that country. So far Buhari's actions are yielding results and looks like we could be on to something great, time will tell.By this time next year we will all know if Buhari is a failure or a success. Then and only then can we truly give the right verdict on his appointments.Long Live Nigeria.
