Just months after Anambra State governor increased the salaries of workers in his state by 15%, governor Ajimobi of Oyo State is planning to either retrench workers or reduce their salaries. Thegovernor, who recently stopped the payment for WAEC exams for secondary school students, made this revelation during a radio program in Ibadan on Saturday.
He said: “The bailout money we are getting is strictly to pay salaries. Even with that, about N17bn is to be paid to the state government workers. As at today, we owe workers N21.3bn. This means that after using the bailout fund to pay salaries, we will still be owing. .
The allocation to the state from the FG on assumption of office in 2011 was N5b. However, the state hardly gets N3 billion now. The next line of action of the state government will be to cut workers’ salaries, retrench or reconstitute.”…..
