7 Human Heads to be Buried with dead King of ikeja?

The late Oba/King of Ikeja.

7 human heads to be buried along with King/Oba of Ikeja! I saw this headline a few minutes ago and not sure what to think.I don't know the origin of the story but before we tak about that,i will let you quickly read the gist of the story.

The death of the lateef Oba of Ikeja who died last wednesday  has spread panic around the Lagos State capital Ikeja as the funeral of
the traditional ruler the Olu of Ikeja looms and according to local tradition,it  requires that seven human heads are buried along with the remains of the oba to serve him in the afterlife.

King Rauf Adeniyi Aremu Matemi, the Olu of Ikeja passed away in his palace after a brief illness on 2nd of July and plans for his funeral are currently being put together. All businesses and shops in Ikeja Local Government Area were closed down yesterday as a mark of respect for the departed monarch. At the oba’s palace yesterday, traditional figures, market women and members of the Hausa community were all present top pay their respects.
Eminent personalities, including Senator Bola Tinubu,Rafiu Jafojo,Henry Ajomale and the All Progressive Congress (APC) national women leader,Chief Mrs Kemi Nelson and others have started to pay tributes to the late king.
Nelson on thursday led a delegation of APC women to the palace of the King around Ipodo in Ikeja and in her condolence message, she claimed to be representing APC leader Senator Bola Tinubu and other party members.

Some rituals were also being performed in his honour at the palace, with some traditional chiefs wearing the traditional white wrappers as demanded by custom.
One senior chief said: “There are some rituals that needed to be performed when an oba dies. For instance, we don’t announce the death of a king on the pages of newspapers.”

Human rights bodies have however, warned local Ikeja residents to be wary of their movements, especially at night. Those considered most vulnerable are people living in the Anifowose, Obafemi Awolowo Way, Alausa, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ipodo, Computer Village, Oba Akran and Ikeja GRA areas.

Among other things, the traditional Oro cult will be coming out every night to pay homage until the monarch is buried. Residents are being advised to get back home early and stay indoors if they live in these vicinities.

Now that we have the story, you can see why i find it hard to believe this story. As a kid i heard of all these kinds of stories..and i'm sure it used to happen,But surely this nonsense cannot still happen now can it?I remember watching a program once that said in Egypt they used to bury about 1000 men alive with the Pharaoh when he dies! Can you imagine that? 1000 men!! They sure had some barbaric ways back in the days...the whole belief was a King cannot serve himself or fend for himself so these men will cater for the king and his needs in the after life, what nonsense!

I also remember in some parts of Yoruba land they had some Chiefs whose title was that of "ABOBAKU" meaning you die with the King.Hahahaahha..can you imagine having a title that stipulates you die along with the king when he dies? And legend has it that a lot of men used to fight for that position and considered it an honor to die with the KING...Different strokes and different times indeed..now adays you have to beg and beg in your family for someone to donate blood for you less talk of a kidney should you need one..lol
Anyway there are two more days to go before the King is buried or so,cos i read there was going to be 9 days of mourning..could be more i'm not sure,so when you are walking round the street of Ikeja vicinity,be careful o,less you become an ABOBAKU!
