Banky W tells us what we all already know.Religion and Tribalism ,along with Corruption are the three things destroying Nigeria.I seriously don't think we are gonna have a chance with those three things in place,and the sad thing is i don't see either going away for many years!
Only in Nigeria will you have a credible,tried and tested leader like Babatunde Fashola at hand and decide to go for an unknown Pastor,its just ridiculous.Buhari is a staunch Muslim ,so lets go for a pastor to counter that. Don't worry if there is a better man sitting in the corner,just think about religion and the votes. A very good point Banky W made was,when MKO Abiola won the election,it
was a muslim muslim ticket,not only did they win.But till date it was the most peaceful election in Nigeria and won by the clearest margin.It was a landslide!
So it's either our thinking or mentality has now regressed since then or we have a bunch of jokers deciding for the nation.
Sad state of things ,Is it a wonder that many people can't wait to get out of Nigeria?Ask the average person on the street what his dream for next year is,and he will tell you,to get a visa to get out of Nigeria! They even have special services at churches for visa allocation,hahahaaha...A pastor will preach and say God is telling me someone is going to America tomorrow! And watch and hear them scream amennnnnnnn!! IJMN! For those of you who missed that,its Amen in Jesus Mighty Name!
They don't even mind if its South African or Libyan visa.That's the sad thing,it will be understandable if they had standards,Uk,Usa,Canada,NO,MBA,O TI O,anywhere will do,as long as they can get out of the country!
In my parents generation,after studying abroad,they couldn't wait to get home,my father came back to Nigeria 3 months after completing his studies,he couldn't wait to get out! His landlord offered him the house we lived in for a very affordable price,my dad turned it down.His words were,"What do i want to have a house in this cold country for?I will build a house in my own county" It turned out to be one of his biggest regrets.
Many others were like that,many of his friends were like that,they couldn't wait to get home,the craziest thing was,some mothers were pregnant,and they could not even wait to get home,they came home with the pregnancy! Can you believe that? There are 2 ironies here,the first is,these mothers turned down the chance to make their child a citizen of the country.Secondly they turned down the chance to have their child in the UK or USA,instead deciding to have the child in Nigeria.Many of those children have not forgiven those parents till today. Today only a mad person will turn down the chance to have their child in UK or USA,have you seen the amount of mothers who die at child birth in Nigeria today? This will show you how far and badly we have gone back..and many years later,we are still living in that doldrum!
I can bet you that among 150 million people in Nigeria,not a single mother will choose having their child in Nigeria over the UK or USA,well,in my parents generation,they DID JUST THAT! They chose Nigeria,many of them! Can we get back to those times again? Hmmm..i don't think so at this moment,but i hope we do.I hope my children enjoy the Nigeria i enjoyed as a child.
