The Clark Sisters movie in 2020, is a celebration and biography and true story of the first ladies of gospel.It also features their mother Mattie Moss Clark.
The movie stars Christina Bell as Twinkie, Kierra Sheard as Karen, Sheléa Frazier as Dorinda, Raven Goodwin as Denise, Angela Birchett as Jacky, and Aunjanue Ellis as Mattie.
Now to tell you a bit more about the sisters.
They originally started out as five.They
were Jacky Clark Chisholm, Denise Clark Bradford, Elbernita “Twinkie” Clark-Terrell, Dorinda Clark-Cole, and Karen Clark Sheard. They became famous in the 1980s and took gospel music to the mainstream.
They released their first album, Jesus Has a Lot to Give, in 1973.Some of their biggest and most popular songs are “Is My Living in Vain”, “Hallelujah”, “He Gave Me Nothing to Lose”, “Endow Me”, “Jesus Is A Love Song”. The group has won numerous award including the Grammys. Some of their Grammy Awards success are,Best Gospel Performance and Best Traditional Gospel Album.
Did you knoe they are the highest-selling female gospel group in history?
The sisters have all at a point had solo careers,however Denise took it a step further when she left the group in 1986. The remaining 4 members continued after she left and went on to release more albums.
They released a new album called The Return in March 2020.Rapper Snoop Dogg features on the track “His Love.” It was their first album since the release of A Clark Family Christmas in 2009.
The singing family group have a special affinity with Aretha Franklin.They performed at Aretha's funeral. They sang a moving rendition of “Is My Living in Vain” at the 2018 funeral service.
It was also a teturned favour as Aretha had also sang at their mother's funeral in 1994.
