The World Health Organisation (WHO)has declared the Ebola outbreak in west Africa a public health emergency of international concern that requires an extraordinary response
to stop its spread.
Margaret Chan, the director general of the WHO, said the Ebola outbreak – was now getting out of hand especially in countries where they have not got the facilities to contain this disease. She thereby called on the International community to help.
"Countries affected to date simply do not have the capacity to manage an outbreak of this size and complexity on their own," Chan said. "I urge the international community to provide this support on the most urgent basis possible."

The recent outbreak broke out in Guinea first and has since moved on to Liberia  and Sierra Leone, there has also been a 2 deaths in Nigeria, one a diplomat who flew in the country from Liberia,Patrick Sawyer and a nurse who helped attend to him while he was sick with Ebola disease. There has also been a case of a Saudi Arabian man who was infected while he was away in West Africa.A 75 year old Spanish priest as well was infected in West Africa and has since been flown to Spain for treatment.
So far there is no licensed vaccine or treatment for the Ebola Virus. An experimental drug was used on two Americans who were flown back to the US from Liberia and they seem to be responding to it.

Chan said even though not all countries, or even a majority of countries, would see cases but still felt the need to declare a state of public health emergency of international concern.
